The mission of the Nordic Walking Association of North America (NWANA) is to establish and maintain a sustainable institutional basis for the development of Nordic Walking as a competitive sport discipline in the United States of America.
NWANA focuses on consistent principles, rules, and procedures that support predictability, transparency, and repeatability across the Nordic Walking competition system at a national level.
Mission Objectives
Within its mission, NWANA aims to:
- Develop and maintain a regulatory and procedural basis for competitions
- Support a consistent approach to event sanctioning
- Define participation and eligibility frameworks for athletes, officials, and organizations
- Promote structured education and qualification approaches
- Create conditions for long-term, system-based discipline development
Jurisdiction
Operating within U.S. law and within NWANA’s stated mission and governing documents.
Scope in the United States
NWANA operates under the laws of the United States of America and acts within the scope of its mission and internal regulations.
The organization’s jurisdiction is limited to institutional, regulatory, and competition-related matters for Nordic Walking in the United States, to the extent those matters fall within NWANA’s activities.
Jurisdiction Limitations
NWANA does not:
- Regulate wellness, recreational, or commercial forms of activity related to Nordic Walking
- Replace independent commercial or private initiatives
- Claim exclusive or monopoly rights to the term, method, or practice of Nordic Walking
The organization’s focus is limited to institutional and competition-related components of the system.
International Context
Consultative and coordination formats that do not expand jurisdiction beyond the United States.
Engagement
NWANA may engage with foreign and international organizations in Nordic Walking and related disciplines in consultative, coordination, and information-sharing formats.
No Expansion of Authority
Such engagement does not modify NWANA’s jurisdiction and does not expand its authority beyond the United States.
