ABOUT

About NWANA

The Nordic Walking Association of North America (NWANA) is the national governing body dedicated to developing Nordic Walking as a structured and recognized sport across North America.
Founded in December 2024, NWANA is building a comprehensive national system that unites athletes, instructors, and clubs, establishing standards for education, competition, and professional advancement in Nordic Walking across North America.

Our Mission

NWANA represents the continental North American pillar of the World Nordic Walking Movement. Our mission is to advance Nordic Walking as a modern competitive sport, a high-performance discipline, and a widespread athletic practice across North America.

We build the full sports ecosystem: develop national rules and standards, create education and certification pathways, prepare instructors, coaches, and judges, organize competitions and leagues, and support athlete development from community level to national teams.

Our Programs

  • Certification and multi-level education for instructors, coaches, and judges
  • Organization of national and regional races, competitive leagues, and training camps
  • Development of local clubs and city-based federations across North America
  • Formation, coordination, and management of the NWANA U.S. Representative Team
  • NWANA Elite U.S. Team — the federation’s elite athlete roster, currently represented by Albert Fatikhov.

Leadership

Albert Fatikhov — professional Nordic Walking athlete, multi-medalist, certified coach, and sports psychologist.

He serves in a representative and developmental role within NWANA, overseeing key strategic directions, curating national Nordic Walking initiatives in the United States, and acting on behalf of the organization in international contexts.
